Old cars and TVs
For the longest time we had this old tv that would not turn off or on unless we gave it a solid tap of encouragement. This came in the form of a hit in the top of the box and then BOOM on or off it would go. Interestingly enough, after several years of this we discovered one particular evening that we no longer had to hit the tv to make it work. I remember laughing with Dave about the idiocracy of it all. Well, last month I told Dave that our car had another problem--it has many...ie. leaks from the floor when it rains (which does come from the sky!), rough idle which occasionally leads to a stall, declining gas mileage, many many rust spots that look ugly just mention a few. Anyway, the newest problem is that the RPMs run very high. Now because of its rough idle and the funny noises that it makes when it drives I probably didn't notice this problem at its onset but last month I began to notice that when it idled the RPMs hung out around 2500 vs. the typical 900 to 1000 and when driving it ran above 3000 all the time. GREAT! Oh well, it still drove! BUT Guess what?!!! Last week in a moment of TLC (Totally Loathing the Car) I gave my car one of those famous 'solid taps of encouragement' right in the center of the dashboard and the RPMs bumped right down to where they should have been! It is a miracle. I fixed the car...seriously, all I am worried about now is that I might have the car long enough to see that the tap of encouragement is no longer needed!
